THE BEST WATERFALLS AND SPRINGS OF GOA

Explore all the waterfalls in Goa including some of the hidden ones.

Situated perfectly on the wetter side of the western ghats, and receiving quite heavy annual rainfall, the state of Goa is blessed with numerous springs and waterfalls, some running throughout the year and some providing chilled water solely in the monsoon and few months aftermath. The west of Goa is known for its its beaches whereas the more secluded villages in the east are home to gigantic waterfalls that hide inside the lush woods of the mhadei sanctuary. This waterfalls are pristine and you might be rewarded with beautiful caves and huge old trees that might strain your neck.

Hivre waterfall

This is the biggest waterfall in Goa, originating from river Mahadei and located in Valpoi. If you wish to visit the waterfall, be sure to have a guide on your side before your visit as the trek is very deep in the woods.

Savari waterfall

By far the best and the most visited waterfall in South Goa. This waterfall is located in netravali wildlife sanctuary and can be easily accessed via road. Its just around 20 minutes of Trekking, but, but alot of steps to climb on the way back. The water flows all around the year.
You could also trek the old route and experience the flora and streams along the trails.
It takes around 2 hours from margao to reach the trekking point and it's advisable to carry your own water bottles and snacks to relinquish your hunger and thirst.

santorem waterfall

This is how clean and beautiful the waterfall of Santorem is. Located in Valpoi town of Goa, it invloves a long trek through the wildlife forest reserve. You will encounter many feathers and spikes of the porcupines. It is advisable to get a local guide as there is no trail in the deeper sections of the jungle.
Believe me when i say it: This waterfall has one breathtaking view. This waterfall is ideally in the dense forests of mhadei wildlife sanctuary. Trekking to the waterfall takes hell lot of strength and vigour.

Depending on your fitness, you should take about 1 hour to upto 4 hours for those who are couch potatoes for the rest of the days.
Not to be surprised if you encounter a tiger on the way; things like those are perfectly normal around that region as you're apparently jn vicinity of a tiger's cave.

There are evidently plenty of places to check out in satorem, from caves to 3 waterfalls, all at a tiresome distance from the base village. It is strictly advisable not to trek here during monsoon as the terrain is too steep and perilous.

mainapi waterfall

Mainapi is another waterfall in the netravali wildlife sanctuary. It's a little bit far from savari, around 8 more minutes maybe, but is equally marvellous. The only catch is that there's more rough terrain trekking, especially climbing down a slope. Like savari, there is waterflow throughout the year.

sada waterfall

Secured by the mountains and the trees from the sights of man, the sada waterfall is said to be one of the best trekking spots, with trails and slopes as steep as 75 degrees. It is perilous to visit this beauty during heavy downpours due to the uneven terrain. The reservoir at the bottom is very shallow due to the continuous falling of rocks and debris with the cold gushing waterthis waterfall is a long trek into the choral ghats. I've been here with a adventure club, so everything was planned before hand (the best part: we din't end up being lost). the trek takes about one and half hour to reach to the falls, although in between, you get treated to some amazing panoramas. The drop is from quite an intimidating height and so, it wouldn't be a good thing to be right under it unlike other waterfalls.
There is a lush of wild flowers growing in these areas, which the ladies are surely to carry back home. Some of the slopes are quite steep and hard to walk upon during monsoons. So, its advised to visit this place around winter time, unless you are a daredevil. The waterfall is high but the water at the base is shallow and rocky and full of slit, which causes it to be slippery. So do walk with caution. Other attractions nearby include huge traditional old wells that have room-like spaces in it.

This is the beautiful Goa we all want to see. The view is magnificent- we all know the cameras can't capture the beauty that the eyes perceive. Greenery everywhere.

This cave is apparently a home for the tiger. It looks beautiful with just enough sun rays coming through the holes in the roof and lighting up the whole cave. It is about 40 minutes from Panjim.

This is an antedated well, in the tribal areas, on our way to the Sada falls in Valpoi taluka of Goa. It has steps to walk down and quench the water.

the beautiful view of Anjunem Dam from atop a mountain on our way to the Santorem falls. It was magnificent with a sight of other waterfalls and springs in the vicinity.

Verna Spring

A commonplace for the locals to host their picnics and spend some merry time with their families while dipping themselves in cool and relaxing spring water emerging from the rocks. There is no space to swim or step into the waters of the small pond during the summer season. Visitors throng the place in buses and vans and the narrow roads pose a serious traffic issue for the big vehicles.

The bubble lake

The bubble lake in Netravali is situated inside a school ground. Although deserted most of the time because of its remote location, the more curious lot of people usually visit the small water body to witness the the formation of bubbles on slight vibrations.

If you talk, clap, stamp your feet and do anything that creates the little of vibrations, the water ripples and bubbles form up on the surface of it. It's a mystery how this happens to some people but for some, the answer is crystal clear. Do visit the place and post your own theories in the comments for others to know about it.

Cansaulim Spring

Can you believe it? There is a spring in Cansaulim! For those of you that are from Goa, this might turn out to be a shocker, but yeah, there is a small spring in an eco farm. The only problem with that is the surrounding stinks of urea. The water is probably contaminated too. The stench is unbearable. This has happened because of the notorious zuari nagar industrial estate in the vicinity.

To get there, you will have to take the road running parallel to the Cansaulim coastline and get to the very end ( where you have a pool). From there you keep following the road till the dead end where you will find railway tracks at an elevation. Cross those tracks and vola! You will see a farm house poster. Follow the trail that leads you to the spring.
