The local desserts of Goa

THE LOCAL GOAN SWEETS

Goa is also known for their rich sweets made from jaggery and coconut milk. The top savouries are:
  1. bebinca
  2. dosh
  3. dodol
  4. cocad
  5. pinagre
  6. perad
  7. korbol
  8. alle belle
  9. felle felle
Any local homestay you reside in Goa will be more than willing to treat you with such sweets if you request them. They are proud of their culture and revel regularly with their family members with pomp.

Bebinca: The most notable sweet in Goa. If Gujarat has Dhokla, Fafda, and Kerala has Payasam, then Goa has its very own Bebinca. It is basically a layered sweet dish made of eggs, batter and sugar. Bebinca, also known as 'bibik' or 'bebink' is a type of pudding and a traditional Indo-Portuguese dessert. Traditional Bebinca has seven layers.  also easily available to carry and preserve for a long time or eaten fresh. Bebinca was also adopted as a typhoon name in the northwestern Pacific Ocean, contributed by Macau. It is also prepared in Portugal and Mozambique.

Dosh: It is a diamond shaped sweet dish made of coconut milk, sugar and bengal gram .Even though it requires a tough time of stirring and lot of patience at the end it makes one feeel worth of that whole process and ends up getting consumed too soon.

Perad: this is a guava candy shaped like a diamond. The guava juice is extracted and mixed with sugar to make a dark coloured candy.

Dodol: Dodol is another favourite among the Goan people. It looks like a dark colored jelly containing cashew nuts or sometimes almonds.

Felle felle: felle felle is made up of mashed banana, flour and milk. Apparently, these are banana pancakes with a Goan twist.

Alle belle: these are made of coconut milk, flour and filled with jaggery and coconut pulp mixture. They are very delectable and my all time favourite.

Korbola: these are made from dough, sugar and usually find it during festival times in mostly Hindu and Christian homes.

Nevreo are also made my the Hindu and Christian communities and are again dough with grounded grams and nuts mixture.
