Enjoy the Waterfalls and springs in Goa

Best seasonal and permanent waterfalls of Goa

Being ideally located on the receiving side of the western ghats, the state of Goa receives tremendous amounts of rainfall every year, resulting in constant flow of rivers and waterfalls throughout the year. There are even hot water springs running throughout the year. Some of the notable ones are:

Hivre waterfall

This is the biggest waterfall in Goa, originating from river Mahadei and located in Valpoi. If you wish to visit the waterfall, be sure to have a guide on your side before your visit as the trek is very deep in the woods.

Savari waterfall

By far the best and the most visited waterfall in South Goa. This waterfall is located in netravali wildlife sanctuary and can be easily accessed via road. Its just around 20 minutes of Trekking, but, but alot of steps to climb on the way back. The water flows all around the year.
You could also trek the old route and experience the flora and streams along the trails.
It takes around 2 hours from margao to reach the trekking point and it's advisable to carry your own water bottles and snacks to relinquish your hunger and thirst.

santorem waterfall

Believe me when i say it: This waterfall has one breathtaking view. This waterfall is ideally in the dense forests of mhadei wildlife sanctuary. Trekking to the waterfall takes hell lot of strength and vigour.

Depending on your fitness, you should take about 1 hour to upto 4 hours for those who are couch potatoes for the rest of the days.
Not to be surprised if you encounter a tiger on the way; things like those are perfectly normal around that region as you're apparently jn vicinity of a tiger's cave.

There are evidently plenty of places to check out in satorem, from caves to 3 waterfalls, all at a tiresome distance from the base village. It is strictly advisable not to trek here during monsoon as the terrain is too steep and perilous.

mainapi waterfall

Mainapi is another waterfall in the netravali wildlife sanctuary. It's a little bit far from savari, around 8 more minutes maybe, but is equally marvellous. The only catch is that there's more rough terrain trekking, especially climbing down a slope. Like savari, there is waterflow throughout the year

Tiger falls

Hidden in the extreme village of Kalem, in the Sanvordem taluka of Goa, this waterfall is called Tiger falls because of the presence of a tigers cave at its mouth. It seems the tiger still stays in the cave and hence, people usually keep the place clean and leave by 5 p.m. in order to not disturb the wild animal. The water is very clean and refreshing. There are all fields around and it is besides the village road. No need for any long trekking.

sada waterfall

this waterfall is a long trek into the choral ghats. I've been here with a adventure club, so everything was planned before hand (the best part: we din't end up being lost). the trek takes about one and half hour to reach to the falls, although in between, you get treated to some amazing panoramas. The drop is from quite an intimidating height and so, it wouldn't be a good thing to be right under it unlike other waterfalls.
There is a lush of wild flowers growing in these areas, which the ladies are surely to carry back home. Some of the slopes are quite steep and hard to walk upon during monsoons. So, its advised to visit this place around winter time, unless you are a daredevil. The waterfall is high but the water at the base is shallow and rocky and full of slit, which causes it to be slippery. So do walk with caution. Other attractions nearby include huge traditional old wells that have room-like spaces in it.

Springs

Speaking of hotwater springs, most of them are only seasonal while some have a trickle of water - just about a little to deep your feet and be satisfied if you came from afar just to take a dip in it.

To be honest, the springs are the best place to swim with your amigos (Portuguese word for friends) since they involve very less trekking, in other words, you can reach straight to the main embankment with your vehicle.
Secondly, it is less riskier to swim in the waters of spring. Apparently, the flow isn't too heavy, hence, even the non-swimmers can enjoy without being left out.

Without further ado, let's see some of the convenient and best springs in Goa

Uddear Spring (Verna):

This is the most famous spot for picnickers and teenagers and hence deserved it's place in the first spot. Coming to uddear is like coming to a football stadium- YOU NEED TO COME IN EARLY TO GET THE BEST SPOT. A word of caution is that there are no retail shops nearby. You need to go back to the highway to get your refreshments. Hence, please carry your snacks and beverages to the place - if you wish to - and make sure you go back home with the litter. KEEP it CLEAN so YOU can VISIT it AGAIN.
However, there are 2 restaurants at the spot- exquisite ones with a little expensively priced menu serving burgers and alcohol along with the main course. Their quality of service and food is good, so in the end, it's worth the price!

Kesarval Spring (Verna): It is on the verna plateau after the industrial estate towards cortalim. You have to take the inside road at the Kesarval Open air hall and head straight till the dead end, where you will have a big parking space. You can usually hear the spring water gushing during the monsoon, but otherwise, its usually dry or with very little water. There are steps that take you down to the waterfall. Also, there is an activity center where you can play pool with your friends.

The best thing about this waterfall are its limestone caves, which are behind the waterfall. It's very slippery due to the texture of the smooth clay-like sand. It looks amazing!!
